October 9, 2010 - Decateur, Indiana

Lynnette and I hopped into the RV Friday afternoon to fly to Indiana to spend the weekend with our old friends Bob & Jayne.

We climbed up to 8500 and headed west.  Two hours later we landed at Van Wert county airport, which was in Ohio, but very close to the Indiana border.  Bob and Jayne picked us up and the four of us had a very enjoyable weekend.

On Saturday I took Bob up for the a spin in the RV.  Here is an aerial shot of Decateur.

Bob's a big golfer and here is the local course where he plays a lot.

I considered keeping the RV at this private grass strip but decided on Van Wert County which turned out well.

As you can see, this is Farm country.

Bob and Jayne's house.

Jayne's brother was driving this Combine.

This is harvest time for corn and soybeans.

Van Wert County airport from the air.  Towns are easy to spot in Indiana and Ohio.  They are where all the trees are.

Bob looks like he enjoyed his RV ride.

Van Wert was a very friendly airport.  Everyone liked the RV.

The FBO Manager owns and flies this helicopter.

I took Bob's son John up for a flight.  He loved it.

Lynnette and I with Bob and Jayne in front of their house.

Best friends forever.

On Sunday, Jayne surprised me by asking for a short ride.  So we made a seven minute flight.  Maximum angle of bank was 3 degrees!

Climbing to altitude after taking off from Van Wert.  This is REALLY farm country.

The Ohio River, heading east.

We had a very healthy tailwind.  232 miles per hour over the ground;  nice!   We were safe on deck at Essex Skypark 1+45 minutes after takeoff.  Not bad.
